Convert video to MP3 for playback on phones, computers and car stereos. Choose a lower bitrate for smaller files or up to 320kbps for higher quality.
Best for: Everyday listening, sharing and portable music players
M4A uses AAC audio to balance sound quality and file size. With Preserve source quality selected, a compatible AAC track can be extracted without re-encoding.
Best for: iPhone and Mac playback, compact audio files
Extract audio from video as uncompressed WAV for use in an audio editor. Files are larger than MP3, and converting to WAV cannot restore detail missing from the source.
Best for: Audio editing, mixing and production
FLAC stores audio with lossless compression and typically takes less space than WAV. It preserves the decoded source audio without adding lossy compression.
Best for: Archiving recordings and keeping audio for future edits
Ways to use your audio
Save the sound from a video when you do not need the picture. Compressed audio can take less storage space and is easier to listen to on the go.
Extract an MP3 for your audio player from a performance or music video you have permission to use. The export includes the full soundtrack.
Convert recorded lessons and talks to audio for your commute or workout. Keep the explanations without storing the video.
Extract the soundtrack from a video interview and download it for editing or preparing an audio episode.
Extract recorded dialogue, voiceovers or sound effects from your own footage for use in another editing project.
Save a meeting recording as a compact MP3 or M4A file for listening, sharing and reference.
Convert a video to an audio file, then upload it to the audio-to-text tool to transcribe the speech.
Three simple steps
Use your desktop or mobile browser. There is no software to install.
Choose a video from your device or drag it into the upload area. MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI and WebM are supported, with a limit of 1GB per file.
Keep the default MP3 output or choose another format such as WAV or M4A. You can also adjust the audio quality and sample rate.
Click Convert to start extracting the audio. When it is ready, listen to the preview and download the audio file to your device.
Audio settings
Start with the default settings. Adjust them when you need a smaller file or a specific format for your player or editor.
For lossy formats, a higher bitrate generally keeps more detail but creates a larger file. Try 128kbps for speech or 192kbps and above for music.
The default setting copies a compatible audio stream without re-encoding when possible. Otherwise, it converts at a high bitrate; lossy conversion can still change the sound.
Keep the source sample rate unless your workflow needs a specific value. Increasing it does not improve the original recording. 16000 Hz is an option for speech workflows.

Common questions
Yes. You can convert video to audio on NowText for free without registering or signing in. Upload one video at a time, up to 1GB per file.
You can upload common video formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, WebM, FLV, WMV, 3GP and TS. The file must contain a readable audio track; support also depends on the codecs inside the video.
Upload your video, leave MP3 selected and click Convert to MP3. When conversion finishes, preview the audio and download your MP3 file. You can also choose M4A, WAV, FLAC, AAC, OGG, OPUS, WMA, AC3 or AIFF.
The limit is 1GB per video. If your file is larger, trim it or reduce the video resolution with a video editor before uploading it.
When the source audio codec is compatible with the selected output and settings, Preserve source quality can copy the audio without re-encoding. Converting to a lossy format such as MP3 involves re-encoding when the source uses a different codec. WAV, FLAC and AIFF avoid additional lossy compression, but cannot restore detail already lost in the recording.
The total time depends on the file size, your upload speed and the conversion settings. Longer recordings and files that need re-encoding take more time. Keep the page open while the tool uploads and processes your video.
Open this page in your mobile browser, choose a video from your device, then select an audio format and convert it. Use MP3 for broad playback support or M4A for compatible Apple devices. No app installation is needed.
Yes. Upload the MOV or MP4 file and select MP3 or WAV as the output format. You can also choose M4A for compact AAC audio or FLAC for lossless compression.
Check that the video plays correctly and contains sound. A video without an audio track cannot produce an audio file. If a codec is unsupported, try another output format or export the video again from your editor.
No. This converter extracts the complete audio track, including speech, music and other sounds. It does not separate voices from background audio.

This tool works with video files uploaded from your device. It does not convert a pasted URL to MP3 or download videos from websites. To extract audio, upload a video file you have permission to use.
Upload a video or use a supported sharing link to transcribe speech with punctuation and timestamps.
