Tips for better results
Before transcribing your MP4
Transcript accuracy depends on audio quality. A quick check before uploading saves editing time later.
Verify the audio works
Play the video first. Make sure speech is audible. Silent videos or videos without an audio track cannot be transcribed.
Lower background music
Loud music can drown out speech and reduce transcription accuracy. Lower the music volume if possible.
Trim videos over 60 minutes
Long videos can be trimmed into shorter segments. Upload and transcribe them one at a time.
Re-export if upload fails
Some MP4 files use uncommon audio codecs. If upload fails, re-export the video from your editing software and try again.

Is MP4 to text conversion free?
Yes. You can upload MP4 videos and transcribe them without payment or sign-up.
Can I upload other video formats besides MP4?
Yes. MOV and other common video formats are supported. You do not need to convert them to MP4 first.
What is the maximum length for an MP4 file?
NowText supports MP4 videos up to 60 minutes long. For longer videos, trim them into shorter segments and upload each one separately.
Can I transcribe MP4 videos on my phone?
Yes. Open this page in your mobile browser and select a video from your camera roll or files. No app installation required.
Can I transcribe a silent MP4 video?
No. The tool transcribes speech from the audio track. Silent videos, videos without audio, or videos with only background music cannot be transcribed.
Why does my MP4 upload fail?
Check that the video plays correctly and contains audible speech. The maximum supported video length is 60 minutes. MP4 files can use different audio codecs. If a specific codec is incompatible, re-export the video from your editing software and try again.
Can I extract text or subtitles from the video image?
No. The tool transcribes speech from the audio track. It does not read on-screen text or extract embedded subtitles from the video stream.
Can I export the transcript as an SRT subtitle file?
Not yet. You can view the transcript with timestamps and copy the full text. SRT export is not currently supported.
What if the transcript is inaccurate?
Click a sentence to replay the audio, then edit the transcript directly. Background noise, unclear speech, or overlapping voices can reduce accuracy.
I only have a video link, not an MP4 file. What should I do?
